Certifications for Products and Services

"SCS is a leading third-party provider of certification, auditing and testing services, and standards." The site provides useful information on certifications in forestry, manufacturing, food/agriculture, and other areas.

Recently, a variety of certifications have been developed to identify products and services on the market that are more environmentally friendly than traditional products. These voluntary certifications communicate specific information to consumers and aide in product differentiation. For example, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification identifies wood products harvested in a sustainable manner and a growing number of builders are seeking out FSC certified lumber. Become an educated consumer and business person, and support these voluntary programs by purchasing certified products and services or by having your own products certified.
